Trainees must hold a recognised trade qualification in plumbing and heating. A working knowledge of central heating, hot and cold water systems is essential as well as holding Water Regulations or Water Byelaws.

The course is for experienced plumbing and heating operatives.

Our Legionella Risk Assessment and Water Systems Disinfection for Mechanical Services Training and Assessment course is designed to meet the requirements of the revised Approved Code of Practice (ACOP) and Guidance: Legionnaire’s disease: The control of Legionella bacteria in water systems, and the technical guidance HSG274 Part 2: The control of Legionella in hot and cold water systems (HSG274).

The disinfection of cold water systems is work that can be carried out by competent plumbing operatives with the aim to ensure operatives have the knowledge and skills to undertake the disinfection process.

The training course also covers the actual disinfection process, including a practical examination on a purpose-built test rig by which the tutor can illustrate how disinfection should be carried out. Though the training is primarily aimed at practising plumbing operatives who already have knowledge of hot and cold water systems, it will also be appropriate to water inspectors and others who are involved with the maintenance and management of a water system.

This course will not cover other at risk systems such as cooling towers, swimming pools or spa pools, as these are specialist water systems, neither will it look at carrying out Risk Assessments in Hospital and Healthcare environments as these are more specialised, follow a different guidance and require more extensive training.

The training manual included in the fee forms part of a 1.5 day tutor-led training & assessment programme in our approved Assessment Centre, from giving a comprehensive overview of the main legislative and guidance documents relative to the control of Legionnaire’s disease and the disinfection of water systems to practical guidance on how to carry out a risk assessment of a cold and hot water system in a building and make recommendations to rectify the problems.
